At just 22, Tyla, who is of South African origin took the world by storm and proved that she's a force to be reckoned with. She won her inaugural Grammy for Best Music Performance for her single, Water, which broke streaming records.

During her acceptance speech, she said she was grateful to her family for supporting her. "If you don't know me, my name is Tyla from South Africa. Last year God decided to change my life. I want to thank my family, my mother. I know she's somewhere crying," she said. While she was still basking in the excitement of scooping her first-ever Grammy, then came the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), which she couldn't attend. At the awards ceremony, the star took home four awards. "Sadly I could not make the SAMAs; I honestly tried so hard. I even considered getting a blesser to private jet me over there," she joked. "I just want to say thank you, guys. Thank you, South Africa, for all your support. You guys ride for me. I just remember being young and having dreams of being able to be a global artist and just put music to be loved by people all over the world," she said at the time.

Things got more exciting for the sultry singer, who at the MTV European Music Awards (EMA) made history by becoming the first African artist to bag awards for Best Afrobeats, Best African Act, and Best R&B. During her acceptance speech, she said she was grateful for the support of her family. "Last year, God decided to change my life. This is insane; I'd like to thank my family for their support," she said,
