A suspected serial rapist and murderer has been arrested in Mahikeng, North West, after he was linked to the killing of a woman, he was seen picking up with his car a day before she was found raped and murdered. It's alleged that the 50-year-old was arrested at his house in Makhubung outside Mahikeng in the early hours of Friday morning.
LINKED TO A RECENT MURDER AND RAPE
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said the suspect's arrest comes after he was linked to the rape and murder of 42-year-old Neo Kgabanakgosi. According to initial reports, Neo's naked, lifeless body was discovered by a passer-by on Saturday, 7 September 2024, in the bushes at Danville," Myburgh said. She added that the police were called to the scene where Neo was declared dead by paramedics. "According to investigations, a witness saw the suspect pick up the victim with a car a day before the discovery of the body," she added.
SUSPECTED TO BE A SERIAL RAPIST AND MURDERER
According to Myburgh, four more victims, who allegedly survived after being sexually and physically assaulted by the same suspect, came forward and reported the cases to the police. "The possibility of linking the suspect to multiple cases of the same nature, where females were found raped, murdered, and their bodies dumped in the bushes around Mahikeng, can't be ruled out," said Myburgh. The suspect is expected to appear before Molopo Magistrates Court today for the alleged murder and rape of Neo. The police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist the investigations to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Boitumelo Motsamai of Mahikeng Detectives, on 079 881 9905.
