The embattled South African Football Association (SAFA) will not be able to pay employees their March salaries today. In a letter to the staff yesterday, the CEO said this was due to a late payment from a partner.
SALARY DELAYS
Safa CEO Lydia Monyepao informed staff that they would receive their salaries on the last day of the month. In a letter shared on social media, Monyepao wrote:"Dear colleagues. We are writing to inform you that, regrettably, we will not be able to pay your salaries tomorrow (Tuesday). Normally, your salaries are paid on the 25th of each month. However, due to a delayed payment from one of our partners, inevitably we will also delay your salary payments.
NO BACKUP PLANS
According to the letter, SAFA does not have a backup plan to pay staff. "Unfortunately, at this stage, we do not have adequate financial reserves to make up for this delayed payment. We have received a commitment from the partner that we will have our payment before 31st March 2025. Therefore, your March salaries will be paid by 31 March 2025. We sincerely apologise for this delay and for all the inconveniences that it will cause." Safa is the mother body of all national teams from Bafana Bafana, Banyana Banyana, and Under 17, 20, and 23 squads. It is not clear how Safa is paying for the national teams that have been on national duty since last week until Wednesday.
