Despite an attempt by businesswoman Shauwn 'Mamkhize' Mkhize to halt the auction of her football team, Royal AM FC, due to her owing R40 million to the South African Revenue Service (SARS), the sale is proceeding.
AUCTION
Mkhize's legal representative, Rudolf Mastenbroek, called the auction attempt unfair to proceed without the court return day of the preservation having been anticipated or without the return day being heard, without my client having had an opportunity to explain why the preservation order should not have been made in the first place."
BIDDING
Several people showing interest in the team, including an unnamed MK Party member of Parliament, reportedly submitted a bid. A Russian businessman is among those who have also shown interest in the team. The final bid submission date was Friday, 14 March, at 13:00, with an R1 million. A reported bid of R21 million has been reported from David Skhosana and his partner, and a separate bid was reported from Bidvest Wits General Manager George Mogotsi. However, the sale has been made, and the new owner is on 17 March.
LIQUIDATION
Royal AM FC faced liquidation last year and a FIFA transfer ban due to an unpaid debt of R15 million, excluding interest, owed to former player Samir Nurkovic in outstanding salaries. Mamkhize declined to comment on anything related to Royal AM.
