Royal AM puts PSL in a mess

Royal AM players are on strike due to non-payment of salaries

Yesterday, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced teams that will play in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup between February 12 and 16. The venues and times of the games have been announced, yet there is still an outstanding match between KwaZulu-Natal teams, first division side Milford FC and Royal AM.

NO SOLUTION IN SIGHT

When the last 16 rounds of the Nedbank Cup were conducted, either Royal AM or Milford was supposed to play Sekhukhune United. The Limpopo team progressed to the last 16 of the cup after beating Cape Town City 2-0 last month. During the draw, the PSL did not explain how long it will take for Sekhukhune to wait for their opponents between one of the two KZN teams. The PSL has not set up a date for the match to be played. With the latest Nedbank Cup matches to be played next week, the PSL will have another headache when they conduct a draw for the quarter-final matches. This will means that Sekhukhune will have to wait a little longer until they meet between Milford FC and Royal AM. Fhatuwani Mpfuni, PSL media liaison officer, said they will confirm what is going to happen in due course.

PLAYERS NOT PAID FOR MONTHS

Royal AM, which technically belongs to the South African Revenue Service, because of a R40m debt they owe to the taxman, has not played a match since December last year. Royal AM is owned by socialite and reality star Shauwn "MaMkhize" Mkhize and her celebrity son, Andile Mpisane, who also played for the team. PSL announced last month that all Royal AM fixtures were postponed indefinitely. Their players are still on strike because they have not been paid their November to January salaries.
