Controversial businesswoman and reality television personality Shauwn 'MaMkhize' Mkhize is on the verge of losing her football team, Royal AM. The club, officially named Royal Andile Mpisane Football Club after her son and the chairman of the team, will be placed under the hammer on 17 March 2025.

LOSING THE CLUB TO THE TAX MAN

The South African Revenue Service (SARS), under its curator Jaco Venter, has invited potential buyers to bid for the KwaZulu-Natal club. Royal AM owes the taxman over R37 million in unpaid taxes. To prevent the auction, Mkhize sought an urgent court intervention from the North Gauteng High Court in February. However, on 5 February 2025, Judge AJ Yende dismissed her application due to a lack of urgency.

GOING ONCE, GOING TWICE...SOLD!

This week, Venter released a public notice inviting potential buyers, who must provide a refundable deposit of R1 million. The new owners will be announced on 17 March 2025 at 5 PM. Bids can be submitted on 14 March 2025, starting at 8 AM, with a submission deadline of 1 PM on the same day. "Offer documents must include proof of the bidder's ability to meet financial commitments, along with the required Financial Intelligence Centre Act 38 of 2001 ("FICA") documentation," the notice said. In the document, they state that "offers received shall be kept strictly confidential and shall not be disclosed to any third parties. "The curator bonis reserves the right to accept or reject any offer.".With players not having been paid their salaries since December last year, it is not clear if the new owners will also inherit the players from the Betway Premiership. Royal AM has been suspended from playing since December, and last week, they were kicked out of the Nedbank Cup Last 32.
