IT WAS A TEST
Moepya said these elections have tested their strengths and the strength of their institution.
"They have made the integrity of our system clear for all to see and test. These elections were undoubtedly the most difficult and highly contested. Just as the watershed elections of 1994 laid the foundation of our democratic order, the 2024 elections mark a significant milestone."
THE PEOPLE SHALL GOVERN
Giving his speech President Cyril Ramaphosa said as the leaders of political parties, who occupy positions of responsibility in society, they have heard the voices of the people and must respect their wishes.
"Over the past 30 years, we have strived together to build a country which everyone black and white, men and women, young and old can call home. This election has reaffirmed building a South Africa for all remains the defining mission of our nation,"he said.
He said it was important to note that the seats they hold are not for politicians but represent the ordinary South Africans.
"As we take up our seats in Parliament and in the provincial legislatures. let us appreciate that the seats we occupy do not belong to us. They belong to the people. Whatever authority, whatever power, we are entrusted with must be exercised to advance the interests of the people."
Ramaphosa explained that the IEC has despite many challenges, many difficulties that they went through, many mountains they had to climb, once more they have acquitted themselves with excellence, professionalism and integrity.
He also thanked all stakeholders that played a role in making the elections possible.
