President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a special official funeral category 2 in honour of the former Minister of Finance and Governor of the Reserve Bank, Tito Mboweni (65) ,who passed away on Saturday, 12 October 2024.

President Ramaphosa relayed his condolences to the family and friends of Dr Mboweni. "He served the nation as an activist, economic policy innovator and champion of labour rights with a sharp focus on fiscal discipline and economic transformation. Dr Mboweni has been accorded a Special Official Funeral Category 2 which will take place at Nkowankowa Stadium, Tzaneen, Limpopo, at 10h00 on Saturday, 19 October 2024," Ramaphosa said in a statement.
AN HONOUR
Ramaphosa said the funeral will feature ceremonial elements provided by the South African Police Service. He has ordered that the national flag be flown at half-mast at all flag stations from this morning Wednesday until the evening of the funeral on 19 October 2024. In 2018, Dr Mboweni who enjoyed sharing content with his X followers once shared a post asking for a decent burial when he dies. "My son saw my earlier tweet and he asked, 'What else do you want to do? Nothing: I have done everything a reasonable human being would have wanted to achieve in life. I replied: Just give me a decent burial when my time comes to go. He said: You are going nowhere! That's nice of him!"
