Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu has expressed concerns following the uncovering a firearm training facility in Modimolle, Limpopo on FrIday. The police said that they are still investigating the purpose of the training centre.
CANNOT BE IGNORED
Mchunu said while the exact purpose of the training at the facility remains under investigation, the discovery of military-related training equipment and activities raised serious concerns that could not be ignored. "While no arrests have been made at this time, the authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice," said Mchunu.
NO ACCOUNTABILITY
In a statement the police confirmed that several licensed firearms and large quantities of ammunition were confiscated with no arrests. "During the operation, the team seized licensed rifles, pistols and ammunition believed to be used during training. The purpose of the training is not yet clear, but the military related training cannot be ruled out," SAPS Limpopo said in a statement. SAPS said the manner in which the firearms and ammunition landed at the farm is still under investigation. This second camp comes just two weeks after 95 Libyans were arrested at a bogus military camp in Mpumalanga.
