A 43-year-old police sergeant attached to the Senwabarwana police station in Limpopo has been arrested and charged with six murders. It's alleged that the female cop murdered her victims to claim funeral, accidental and life insurance covers from various banks and insurance companies.
SHE POCKETED R10M
SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said investigations carried out by Captain Keshi Mabunda suggest that the suspect started her killing spree in 2019 where she targeted victims from destitute families and those with disabilities or mental health issues. "She would take out life insurance policies and funeral covers on their behalf and she would be the beneficiary. She is currently linked to about six insurance related murders and evidence shows she has pocketed at least R10 million," said Mathe.
A DISGRACE
Mathe said after months of intense investigation by Mabunda, who also put former cop Rosemary Ndlovu away for life, a warrant of arrest was issued. "The warrant was executed at the police station where she was arrested and works," said Mathe. The National Commissioner of Police, General Fanie Masemola, has welcomed the arrest of the sergeant who was on duty at the time. "The involvement of our own in such heinous crimes is a disgrace. As a police officer, you are entrusted with the safety and security of communities. A police officer entrusted with such a great responsibility to be involved in such acts is an absolute disgrace. She abused her powers by insuring those that trusted her. This must send a strong warning to all involved that the long arm of the law will find you and catch you," said General Masemola.
