A pensioner took his own life following the shooting of a man who had sold him bricks and an attempt to set his wife on fire at their house. The incident took place in Malegale village in Sekhukhune, Limpopo.
HE WENT ON A RAMPAGE
According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, on Friday, just before midnight, the 75-year-old pensioner went around searching for a man who had sold him bricks. "The suspect, who was driving his vehicle, met the victim on the street in his vehicle and, without saying any words, shot him in his upper body. The victim managed to drive to the nearest hospital," Ledwaba said.
HE TRIED TO BURN HIS WIFE ALIVE
Ledwaba said the suspect went back to his house, where he allegedly poured a flammable liquid on it and set it alight. "He proceeded to another room where his wife was sleeping and woke her up, threatened to kill her, and instructed her to get inside the burning house with him. Fortunately, the wife managed to escape, and the suspect tried to chase and shoot her several times with no luck. Later, the suspect shot himself and passed on at the scene." The police have opened an inquest. The police have urged anyone who is experiencing any gender-based violence-related or domestic violence-related matter to seek assistance from a professional. The police investigations are continuing.
