Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi finally announced his Gauteng provincial cabinet last night after two postponements. Lesufi, who was the only premier without an executive council a month after the elections, had postponed the announcement of his cabinet twice after negotiations with the Democratic Alliance in Gauteng reached a deadlock.

WORKING TO BETTER GAUTENG

In a shocking move, Lesufi, who had earlier said the ANC was working with the EFF and MK Party, announced his provincial cabinet, which does not include the two parties or the DA. Delivering his speech, Lesufi said they are willing to work with all the parties to better Gauteng. "We come to you to continue with the crucial process of reconstituting the 7th administration of our province, the GPU. We accept, without conditions, the outcome of our elections and the desires of our electorate that all political parties must work together to run our provincial government. In doing so, we must be mature and sober at all times, " he said. "Hardline stances must be avoided. Openness, transparency, compromise, and communication should be the hallmarks of our administration. Today, we all declare that no one will be left behind unless they choose not to be part of the GPU. However, we will not close the door for any party," he said.

GAUTENG NEW MEC'S

Lesufi's executive consists of seven MECs from the ANC, one from the IFP, one from RISE Mzansi, and one from the Patriotic Alliance. The IFP's Bonginkosi Dlamini will head the eGov, Lebogang Maile (ANC) is the new MEC of Finance, the ANC's Matome Chiloane retains his position as Education and Sports MEC, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa (RISE Mzansi) is in charge of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Kedibone Tihabela (ANC) will lead Roads and Transport, and Tasmeen Motara from the ANC heads the Human Settlement portfolio. Additionally, Faith Mazibuko (ANC) leads the Department of Social Development, the ANC's Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko retains her Health portfolio, and Jacob Mamabolo, who is also from the ANC, now holds the position of MEC for Infrastructure, Cooperative Governance, and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), while the Patriotic Alliance's Sheila Mary Peters will lead the Environment portfolio. Lesufi congratulated his new members of the executive council and told them that the work starts now.
