Ntsiki Mazwai eats humble pie

Ntsiki Mzwai has apologised to Unathi Nkayi

Ntsiki Mazwai has apologised after she dragged Gayton McKenzie, Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, for corruption and favouritism. The controversy was fuelled by radio personality and muso Unathi Nkayi's inclusion as one of 15 writers who were selected to be part of the International Book Fair, currently held in Cuba.

HEARTFELT APOLOGY

The poet claims she was initially invited to the event but was removed. Mazwai quickly took to her social media to record a video where she questioned Unathi's credentials as a writer, concluding that the singer doesn't have a book to her name. Mazwai went on to say it is an insult to those who have books and master's degrees in writing like her. This morning, she issued a humbling apology: "I would like to sincerely apologise for my recent post. Upon further consideration, I realise that the comments made were not only inappropriate but may have caused unnecessary harm and confusion." She acknowledged that while she intended to express frustration, she crossed the line. "I understand that such statements can be misinterpreted or damaging, and for that, I apologise," she said in a statement.

TO BE MORE SENSITIVE

With the usual sharp tongue, Mazwai said moving forward, she would be pre-responsible and considerate. "I also recognise the need to be more thoughtful and responsible when discussing sensitive matters, especially when it involves public figures and important industry processes." Moving forward, I will ensure that my comments are more measured. Once again, I apologise for any offence caused and will work to be more mindful in the future." read the statement. Yesterday, Minister McKenzie threatened to take legal action against Mazwai for the comments she made. According to a source close to the situation, she was threatened by Unathi's lawyers; hence, she jumped to apologise. "Unathi's lawyers don't play; she knew that there was a lawsuit on the way; hence she apologised," added the source. Unathi posted the apology on her timeline with a cheeky caption: "Call me a prostitute again…F**k around and find out." She wrote and tagged Mazwai.
