A mother accused of ordering a hit on her drug addict son made her first appearance at the New Brighton Magistrates Court yesterday on a charge of murder. Shayhieda Dollie (49) from Gelvandale in Gqeberha Eastern Cape was arrested on Wednesday, following the death of her son Moegamat Thaafir Dollie (22).
A PERMANENT SOLUTION
Eastern Cape NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali said Moegamat was found murdered on October 28, 2024. "Dollie, an unemployed woman, had been experiencing problems with her son, who struggled with drug addiction and was considered a nuisance at home. Seeking advice, she allegedly consulted with various people who suggested a 'permanent solution'," said Tyali. He added that Dollie allegedly plotted her son's murder with two men, known as Shaun and Oompie. "The plan was to hire hitmen from Johannesburg for a price of R80,000, but due to the accused's procrastination, the price later increased to R380,000," Tyali said.
SHE TRICKED HIM
Tyali said the plan unfolded when Dollie told her son she had organised a job interview for him. "That's when perpetrators picked him up and ultimately murdered him. Police said he sustained gunshot wounds to his head and neck." The motive for the murder is believed to be a R2 million claim in life insurance payout. According to Tyali, Dollie had promised to pay the hitmen when she received the payout. In addition to murder, Dollie also faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder. The state indicated that it intends to oppose the bail application. The matter was adjourned to November 15 for profile verification purposes.
