After he was heavily criticised for his Paris trip to the Olympics, Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie has taken matters in his own hands and is currently in Dubai and has decided to drive himself.
MINISTER BEHIND THE WHEEL
After it was revealed recently in Parliament that it cost taxpayers about R804,590.71 for the trip, the outspoken minister has decided to change things and lead by example by save taxpayers some money.
Instead of having a chauffeur while in the UAE, he has decided to hire a car and drive himself during the state visit. McKenzie shared with his followers that he will never waste money. McKenzie is currently in Dubai to discuss bringing UFC to South Africa in UAE and discuss Powerslap
"This time I am taking matters in my own hands, I can't be accused of wrongdoing for something I played no party in. I will never waste money, I have been attacked and accused because of the high ground transport cost during my state meetings in Paris,"
CHANGING THE NARRATIVE
He said after the backlash he received during his visit in Paris he decided to change things around. He also told his followers that during his trip to the Paris, he was not the one in charge of making the necessary arrangements such as cars and accommodation. He also revealed that it was his first state visit and that he has learnt from that mistake.
"I honestly didn't have anything to do with hiring cars or drivers, it was my first meeting abroad as a Minister, I didn't even know what to expect," he admitted at the time.
