Minister Gayton Mackenzie's top post elections quotes

Gayton McKenzie

When he was appointed the Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Gayton Mackenzie was excited and even said it was cold outside the government of national unity. He was also quick to shoot his mouth off and to make off-the-cuff comments, which are most of the time funny. We've rounded some top quotes from him.

WON'T MAKE MBALULA MISTAKE

The ebullient Gayton had Justice Raymond Zondo in stitches when he was officiated as the Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture when he made jokes about how he won't make the same mistakes as Fikile Mbalula. "I promise to keep the oath of office and do everything that I've been assigned to do, I won't be like Mbalula," he joked. Mbalula was once a minister in the same portfolio.

"CALL ME A BANDIT AND HONOURABLE"

In September during a National Council of Provinces meeting in Cape Town, McKenzie retaliated against EFF leader Julius Malema for referring to him as a lepantiti (jailbird). Malema said: "A minister who is a jailbird. He is a jailbird and I don't have time for that,' he said. The red berets leader refused to retract the statement when asked to do so. McKenzie did not let the name-calling from Malema slide, responding he said: "I want to make it clear, I don't mind you calling me a 'bandit', but I want to make you aware of one thing, here in the Western Cape, my name was on the ballot as Gayton McKenzie and your name were on the ballot as EFF. People looked at both of them, but they decided to vote for a bandit.'
