"Maybe I should just quit music!"

Makwa Beats tired of not being appreciated for his hard work

Producer and rapper Neo Makwa, best known as Makwa Beats, once had a fallout with Maphorisa and Kwesta, with whom he worked in the past. Just when he had started on a clean slate and made peace with everyone, he now finds himself in another beef, this time with Mandla N, co-founder of Blackbrain Productions. The hitmaker claims to have produced the leading song for the new film, Piano Love but has not been compensated.

NO PAY

Makwa vented on social media this week after the production company shared the success of the show. He responded with "That time anifuni ukus'bhadala (That time you don't want to pay us).' Makwa has since shared his frustration with ZiMoja, saying he made the leading song for the film but has not been remunerated for it. "They were supposed to pay me for the master and the publisher. They blocked me on X after I exposed them. I told my publisher they don't want to pay," he said. "Mandla N lied to Kwesta and said he spoke to me, and I didn't save an invoice, but that is a lie. The movie is out, and they got bad reviews; I doubt they will pay me. They don't answer WhatsApp texts or calls," he said. Mankwa said he is looking into taking legal action. "My publisher is working on having the film taken down from Netflix If there is no payment. All they do is ignore my calls and not communicate." Despite being sent questions on the matter, Blackbrain Publicist Nyiko Chauke did not comment further than, "We will look into the matter.'

DISCOURAGED

Makwa is responsible for the hits Ngudu, Spirit, Ngiyaz'fela Ngawe, and Energy by Kwesta. But feels unappreciated and undervalued. "I work hard, but I never eat from the music I make,' he said, "It's always other people that get the glory and the money,' Makwa says he is considering a change of career and going back to study. "I don't know; maybe I should leave the music business, go back to school, and pursue other career ventures,' he added.

MORE DRAMA

Makwa recently revealed that former manager, Nota Baloyi is responsible for artists not being paid on Kwesta's 2016 hit song Maybabo and not Maphorisa as implied by people, and that Nota did the splits single-handedly, behind everyone's back. This is after former Rhythm City actress Itumeleng Bokaba revealed that she was paid a few cents for her part in the music. Nota has since denied the accusations. "People are just greedy in this game and I keep making hits and not being rewarded,' Makwa concluded.
