It seems the fight between DJ Maphorisa and Samthing Soweto is far from over. This is after it was revealed last week that Samthing Soweto, real name Samkelo Mdolomba was not credited in the Amapinao song Amalanga Awafani by Mas Musiq, Lawd Weezy, TO Starquality and DJ Maphorisa. The song was released under Piano Hub, owned by Kabza De Small, and recorded at Maphorisa's studio. Samthing has since been added to the credits of the song, and his fans couldn't be happier. But the "beef' between him and Maphorisa seems to be far from over.

COMING CLEAN

Samthing Soweto has come forward to address the issue, saying there is some work being done in the background to resolve the matter. "We start all music with the understanding that these are our songs, as a collective,' Samthing Soweto said. "As soon as the song catches fire, no, you are a feature. No, you don't get to own anything; you are not signed. I don't work for these guys. No one has ever paid me a feature fee. I don't play with my Masters,' he added. "They use my works without permission, without contracts or consent. They just release my works without even informing me of release dates; when I ask what's happening, they run to social media to discredit me before I can tell the truth. They then keep all the money they make using my voice/songs and go around telling people I'm hard to work with. This has happened to me from The Soil days.' Samthing Soweto said Maphorisa has been lying. "I paid Phori for my Masters. I paid the amount that he asked for at the time. Furthermore, I lied about Phori's contributions to my project; he didn't produce anything. So again, he didn't produce my work. I worked with Mas Musiq, Howard and Kabza De Small in that studio, who produced between 40-60% of my work, depending on how you view it. So yes I lied, I lied cos I wanted to sell records, I used Maphorisa's legend status to try and sell music and it worked. But I didn't know that I'd pay for it with my hard-earned creative work and dignity. That I'd never get paid for my work and he'd go around telling people that he fed me.'

RESPONSE

Maphorisa said he worked on Samthing Soweto's album and never made the same demands. "Samthing Soweto, please don't make us kids. I asked you two years ago to send us an invoice; let's also pay up the same way you paid us for Sphithiphithi (the album),' he said. "Why do you want to own all the Masters? Don't make us idiots. You are not a good person at all. If we own the masters and we just pay up, you will lose," Maphorisa responded to Samthing Soweto. He said Samthing Soweto has been fighting for the song not to be released, all in the name of sabotage. "Why would you wanna sabotage that song? You just sabotaged yourself just because you are greedy and want to own all the masters of the songs. His album, Isphithiphiti, was recorded in my house and I gave him a chance. Stop sabotaging us and making us look bad when Mas Musiq gave you a chance when we could not handle your shit. We share this shit, but you want all the masters for yourself. This song was supposed to be great," Maphorisa vented.
