Alexandra Police Station had to be closed temporarily after a man who sought assistance from the station claiming someone wanted to kill him shot and injured two police officers this morning. The man has been shot dead after police officers gave chase when he fled the station.
THE UNUSUAL
Gauteng police deputy commissioner Major-General Fred Kekana confirmed the shooting and said the two cops were shot on their right shoulders. "The man went into the station around 10am and said he needed help because someone was trying to kill him. There were also other community members at the station waiting to be served. An officer was seated behind the counter and writing a statement when this man walked in and grabbed that police officer's firearm," explained Kekana.
CAUGHT OFF GUARD
Kekana added that the police officer was wearing civilian clothes and the firearm was in the holster. "The man grabbed that firearm and started shooting randomly. And during the situation, unfortunately, he shot a 48-year-old sergeant and a 27-year-old constable. Both of them are currently receiving medical attention and are in stable condition," said Kekana. After shooting the officers, the man who has not been named ran down 15th Avenue and Selborne Road, shooting at people in the street. Kekana confirmed that the suspect was fatally wounded after the police shot at him.
