Award-winning pop singer Makhadzi has distanced herself from the violence that erupted at the Makwassie Fun, Games & Musical Festival in North West Province. Makhadzi was supposed to perform at the event on the Day of Goodwill, but the gig descended into chaos when Makhadzi failed to appear on stage.
MAKHADZI LOOK ALIKE
Angry fans pelted bottles and stones on a performer who was dressed like Makhadzi. The chaos led to some angry fans damaging and burning the stage with a total damage estimated at R3 million. Makhadzi has responded to the controversy surrounding her absence from the festival.
In a statement released by her company, Makhadzi Entertainment, she said the promoter, Ismael, did not pay the full amount of R180 000 she had charged for her performance.
She explained: "On November 19, 2024, a contract was provided to the promoter, which specified that a 50% deposit must be received prior to any promotional activities on social media. Additionally, the full payment was required 14 days before the event. Following this agreement. A deposit has been received, along with an extra R3,000 for a promotional video. Unfortunately, the promoter did not reach the agreement as per contract by failing to pay the balance within 14 days agreed. Please note that Makhadzi and her traveling team are informed of events only after all payments have been confirmed, in accordance with the terms outlined in the contract. We did not receive the balance within the 14 days period."
STADIUM RUINED
After Makhadzi's successful show at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last week, the stadium has been declared unusable by the Polokwane Local Municipality.
Polokwane municipality mayor John Mpe confirmed that damages to the field will cost the municipality over R1 million to fix. He said the venue will be ready for use by the end of January 2025.
The Betway Premier Soccer League match between Sekhukhune and Marumo Gallants has been rescheduled to be played at the Old Peter Mokaba stadium on Saturday afternoon. The highly anticipated league match between Magesi FC will also be played at Old Peter Mokaba stadium on Sunday afternoon.
NO SHOW
Meanwhile, Thuli P has also released a statement that she will not make it to all shows scheduled for 26-31 December 2024.
She said the decision has been made due to the fact that she fell sick and is not fit enough to perform.
She said: "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to those who have already purchased tickets or made arrangements to attend the shows. Please know that this decision was not taken lightly and we understand the disappointment it may bring. Our team is working diligently to rectify these issues and reschedule the events in a manner that ensures a successful and enjoyable experience for all.
