DSTv Premiership side TS Galaxy has decided to part ways with legendary defender Vuyo Mere after his remarkable 23-year career in professional football. The club announced the news through social media earlier today.
RETIRING?
Mere, along with Bernard Parker, Hugo Vidal, Lindokuhle Mbatha, Vasilije Kolak, Orebotse Mongae, and Lehlohonolo Mojela, will be leaving TS Galaxy at the end of the season. Mojela is set to join Stellenbosch FC. Mere, who is expected to retire, has reportedly been offered a coaching position for the TS Galaxy reserve team by the club's chairman, Tim Sukazi.
EVERYTHING TO BE FINALISED NEXT WEEK
The veteran footballer has not confirmed nor denied the rumours of his retirement. "I'm still going to meet with the chairman next week, where we need to finalise everything. It is hard for me to confirm anything at the moment, as all the things that you are asking me will be dealt with next week in the upcoming meeting with the chairman," he said. Mere began his professional career in 2004 with Sundowns, later playing for Moroka Swallows, Platinum Stars, and Bidvest Wits, and eventually returning to Moroka Swallows, helping them secure their PSL status in 2020 after winning the National First Division (NFD).
