Late comedian Umfundisi uNtshebe's family asks for donations to bury him

Comedian Philani Mabanga has passed away

The family of late comedian and rapper Philani Mandlenkosi Mabanga, who was famously known as Umfundisi uNtshebe, is asking for donations to bury him. The comedian died last Friday, and his family has been trying to give him a dignified send-off, but things are hard.

SEEKING DONATION

 

Speaking to ZiMoja, family spokesperson Dudu Mabanga confirmed that the comedian, who hails from Katlehong in the East Rand, passed away last Friday in his sleep. "He was not sick; he went to bed and never woke up," Mabanga said. She told ZiMoja that the family would appreciate some donations. She says currently the family needs help with everything, from a casket to catering. Mabanga said the comedian was struggling to make ends meet before he passed away. "Any donations are welcomed at this point, the family will appreciate the contribution," she said. According to Mabanga, the family has set out a bank account for anyone who would like to lend a helping hand. "His memorial service will be on Thursday and he will be buried on Saturday. At the moment, we are still trying to put things together; we will confirm the venues as soon as everything goes well," she added. Mabanga confirmed that he died destitute because he was struggling to secure deals and left a nine-year-old daughter behind.

 

A COMEDIAN

 

The 54-year-old became popular for his whimsical style of fictional comic music, he also used to satire to expose what happens in churches and at funerals. He quickly became a hit because many people could relate to his content. He released many fictional comic music albums, including Inkonzo kaNtshebe Vol. 1 up to Vol. 6 and many more from the early 2000s. He also worked with many top musicians, including the late legendary maskandi musician Bhekumuzi Luthuli. Phianthropist Bi Phakathi also tried his part to assist the family by reaching out to Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie via X. He wrote: "Hi Minister, we have a situation with her. Philani Mabanga, AKA Ntsebe , a veteran comedian musician, was staying with his 9-year-old kid, and there is no income to bury him. Please intervene to support the family with his burial."
