Criminal charges against media personality and Uyajola 9/9 presenter, Molemo 'Jub Jub' Maarohanye have been withdrawn. Court. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) confirmed in a letter to Jub Jub's legal representatives that there was no case that Jub Jub, real name Molemo Maarohanye, had to answer for.

CHARGES

Jub Jub faced 13 charges, including those related to multiple counts of rape, attempted murder, and assault grievous bodily harm (GBH), amongst others. In July 2023, Jub Jub handed himself over to the South African Police Service following a warrant that was issued for his arrest on three counts of rape, two of attempted murder, and one of assault. He was later released on bail of R10,000. One of the rape charges he faced dates back to 2006.

At the time, the National Prosecuting Authority's Gauteng regional spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, explained in a statement that one of the complainants laid a rape charge with SAPS in February 2022 against Jub Jub. "She alleged that the incidents of rape happened between 2006 and 2009 while she was in a relationship with him. After seeing her speak out about her ordeal on social media, more women decided that it was time to come forward and tell their stories about the humiliation and abuse they suffered at the hands of the accused. After the complainant consulted with the Senior Public Prosecutor in Johannesburg, three more women were willing to give statements about their own experiences while they were in a relationship with the accused," Mjonondwane said at the time.

SENSE OF RELIEF

Jub Jub spokesperson, Thanduxolo Jindela, said the recent decision by the DPP to acquit him has solidified their position that the rapper and TV presenter has been innocent all along. Through his spokesperson, Jub Jub said, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to my legal team for their unwavering commitment to justice and truth. This verdict brings a sense of relief and vindication not only to me but also to all those who supported me. The outpouring of support has been truly touching, and I am grateful for it," he said.

NPA CONFIRMS

Mjonondwane confirmed that charges against the TV presenter have been withdrawn. "The decision follows careful consideration of the police case docket, the report from the prosecutor, and the representations lodged with the director of the public prosecution's office, that office concluded that there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution, and the sensible thing to do was to withdraw the charges against Molemo Marrohanye," Mjonondwane said.
