Gwamanda still the mayor for now

Kabelo Gwamanda is still the mayor but not for long

The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng had said that Kabelo Gwamanda would be replaced as the mayor by the end of the week but ANC Gauteng Chairperson, Panyaza Lesufi, explained that consultations took longer than expected

DON?T BURN BRIDGES

Lesufi said that despite the call to remove Gwamanda, they don?t intend to burn any bridges with their coalition partners and they?ve agreed that the new mayor should come to from the ANC.

"The process of consultation with all other political parties that we have been working with unfortunately took long but we really believe it?s very important. You don?t just abandon people because you have found new players, new people or new political parties that are supporting you," Lesufi said.

WE FOUGHT FOR THE CITY

Gwamanda hit back at those claiming that he is incompetent."We fought for the City of Johannesburg to be where it is right now. We fought for the employees in the City of Johannesburg who were purged. They call me incompetent because I refused to have tea with their white friends."

The parties have called for Gwamanda?s resignation following allegations of corruption, inadequate service delivery and the controversial R200 electricity surcharge impacting customers.
