He has abandoned a life of sin and is now following in the footsteps of the likes of DJ Sgqemeza, Thabiso Mokhethi, Pushie Watson, and Palesa Mochuminyane, all of whom have committed themselves to the church. Cape Town-born DJ Nathan Van Dalen, also known as DJ NV Funk, was baptized last weekend and has decided to set aside his headphones and drumsticks to spread the gospel.

FOLLOWING THE LORD

DJ NV Funk has been making music as a DJ and drummer for over 10 years and is popular in the Gqom music scene. He studied at the Soul Candi Music Institute, where his career began in 2012. His signature style has been DJing while drumming, which fans have grown to love. NV Funk says the decision to retire early was not easy, as music has been all he knows. "I got baptised and my life will never be the same. I surrender all to you, Lord Jesus," he declared.

THE BIG DECISION

He said his decision, although emotional, was driven by his desire to fully follow the Lord. "I am filled with immense gratitude for the opportunities I've had locally, nationally, and internationally. The experiences, friendships, and memories made during this time will always hold a special place in my heart. NV Funk says God has called him to a new phase in his life. "I am excited to embark on the new chapter with Jesus by my side. Today I drop my drumsticks and pick up the cross wholeheartedly," he added.
