The end might be looming for Umkhokha: The Curse

The future of loved Umkhokha:The Curse future is hanging in the balance. ZiMoja has learnt that the telenovela, produced by media big wig, Duma Ndlovu, might come to an end. ZiMoja has learned that Multichoice might not extend the contract of the flagship show. According to a source, actors are supposed to be negotiating contracts because their current ones end in October but none of that has happened. "People are anxious and worried no one is saying anything," a source said.


TAKEN BY SURPRISE 


ZiMoja has been told that actors are worried as they did not see the latest move of the telenovela potentially being canned and worse they moved to stay in Durban seeing the success of the telenovela. 

"It is such a huge mess because most actors are based in Durban and there is nothing much happening in Durban. Where are they going to get jobsn if the show is really canned?" asked a source.

Another source added, "Everyone is crossing fingers that it will be renewed for the next season because the show is bringing in good numbers and advertising revenue for the channel."


LEFT IN THE DARK


ZiMoja has also learnt that Multchoice is apparently working on two new shows that are in pre-production - an IsiZulu and an IsiXhosa shows.

According to the source, one show which is predominantly IsiXhosa, is going to replace Gqeberha, which is shot on location in the Eastern Cape, while Umkhokha:The Curse which is shot in KwaZulu-Natal, will be replaced by the show which is predominantly Zulu-speaking. 

The source said: "We all know TV is not predictable, but they are gambling with people's livelihoods. Who is thinking of getting a new job now that we approaching festive season?"

According to another source, both shows will still be aired on TV until next year even though production is ending.

An actor,who wanted to remain anonymous, said, "the producers have kept us in the dark.They are are not forthcoming with the truth."

The heartbroken actor said: "We don't know what is happening because the show is doing well. We are worried about our wellbeing at this juncture. 

No one is communicating. People are just coming up with new stories everyday on set." 

Called for comment, When called for comment publicist for Mzansi Magic Portia Hlongwane said season two is currently on air until episode 260."Nothing has been announced on season 3," she said without going into detail whether the show will make it back for another season.
