A 26-year-old woman was hacked with an axe after catching her boyfriend with another woman. The woman from Rosendal in the Free State visited her boyfriend's home last week Monday and found him with another woman inside his bedroom.

The provincial police spokesperson, warrant officer Mmako Mophiring, said the incident happened last Monday, but the suspect was only arrested yesterday. This is after a woman approached the Rosendal police to open a case of domestic violence. "On July 2, 2024, the woman from Mautse near Rosendal came to the police station after she was discharged from the local hospital to report a domestic violence incident that occurred on June 27, "said Mophiring. Mophiri said after catching the man with another woman, she confronted him about their relationship, but he pushed her and insulted her. "The boyfriend further took out a knife, but she disarmed him," Mophiring said. He added that the suspect then armed himself with an axe and hacked the victim on top of her head. "He also strangled the woman," said Mophiring.

According to Mophiring, the victim managed to walk back to her home, and her sister called an ambulance, and she was rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment. "A case of attempted murder is being investigated," Mophiri said. The suspect has been charged with attempted murder and is expected to appear in the Ficksburg Magistrates Court soon.
