The Pretoria High Court has found a former police officer guilty of the premeditated murder of his girlfriend at their home in Mamelodi, Pretoria, in 2017.
HE CONFESSED TO THE MURDER
The court heard that an argument broke out between former police constable Kgabo Rammutla (40), who was stationed at the Eersterust Police Station, and his girlfriend Lisbeth Seloma (29) after she informed him of her decision to end their relationship and move out of the home they shared on October 15, 2017. NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said during the altercation, Rammutla shot her multiple times using his service pistol and went outside and asked neighbours to call the police and confessed to the murder. He was arrested at the scene.
PLEADING NOT GUILTY
Mahanjana added that in court, Rammutla pleaded not guilty. ?However, the state, led by Advocate Pieter Luyt, presented compelling evidence and credible witnesses. This included the couple's landlord, who stayed in the yard and testified about the events leading to the deceased?s death on the day.? Judge Jacobus Strijdom, presiding over the matter, ruled that Rammutla had a clear motive to kill Seloma, as she was planning to leave him. ?The court found that his actions of firing multiple shots demonstrated intent to kill. Furthermore, the judge found the state's witnesses to be credible and reliable. The judge found that the state was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt,? added Mahanjana. The matter was postponed to 9 April for sentencing.
