Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyabonga Zulu will be remembered at a memorial service tomorrow in Soweto.
Zulu, who played for Phezulu FC, passed away in a car accident in Mpumalanga, which also claimed the life of his teammate, Nhlanhla Masina, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
BAD CONDITION
According to the club, another player, former Moroka Swallows winger Thabo Mosadi, was also involved in the accident and remains in critical condition in the hospital. In a statement, Phezulu FC said: "Upon arrival at the clubhouse in Secunda post-match, Mosadi, Zulu and Masina all took to one vehicle travelling towards Evander to drop off Masina at his residence when a double-cab van driving on the wrong lane on the double-carriage road collided with the Phezulu FC players, causing their vehicle to come to a complete stop." Phezulu FC played a soccer match against FC Sivutsa at Driekoppies in Mpumalanga on Saturday.
MEMORIAL SERVICE AND FUNERAL
The club announced that Zulu?s memorial service will be held at Damini 2 Multi-Purpose Centre in Soweto, where he is from. The service starts from 12 noon until 2 pm. He will be buried on Saturday. Zulu, who is Gogo Maweni?s ex and baby daddy, played for several top teams at professional level, including Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Chippa United and Platinum Stars. He has also played for several other teams around the country, like Blackburn Rovers and Chippa United from the Eastern Cape, United FC, Sivutsa FC (Mpumalanga), Platinum Stars (North West), Black Leopards (Limpopo), All Stars and La Masia, both from Gauteng.
