He had a good run with Orlando Pirates since joining in 2022. Despite reaching his goals, at the end of the 2023/24 season, former assistant coach Sergio Almenara (44) left the team. He has officially bagged a new role with the Finland national men's football team as a set-piece coach.
NEW CHAPTER
This new chapter comes after he struggled with family integration as the main reason for his departure from Pirates. "I wanted to be closer to my family," Almenara explained. He has accepted the role of set-piece coach for the Finnish senior men's team after his duty as the Head of Scouting with FC Inter Turku.
NOT JUST A TITLE
In a statement, he highlighted his responsibilities of developing strategies for matches and football. "I didn't have the same title in my previous clubs ?" I was an assistant coach responsible for special situations and other things. It's just a title, he said. "We build the principles and structures of special situations together with the head coach and goalkeeper coach. This way we can be efficient and quick in implementing special situation-related matters."
