Disgraced former African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general and now African Congress for Transformation (ACT) President Ace Magashule can soon find himself behind bars after an assault case was opened against him.

ASSAULTED FOR THROWING T-SHIRT AT ACE

Magashule is alleged to have assaulted a man who threw a t-shirt in his face during his two-day campaign trail in the Lejweleputswa District in Welkom and Virginia in the Free State over the weekend. Magashule was in the area to introduce his newly formed political party and also recruiting new members. It is alleged that the incident happened on Sunday where Magashule is said to have beaten Ndade Moletsane with his compatriots. A source who spoke to ZiMoja said him and the victim were sitting outside a popular chisanyama in the area when they saw a convoy of cars from which ACT t-shirts were being handed out. "One of the people in the van threw a t-shirt at him and he threw it back and said he didn't want it. He didn't even know that Ace was inside one of the bakkies, and the t-shirt he threw back landed on Ace's face. Ace got out of the van swearing and assaulted the man together with his bodyguards," the source said.

THE CONFIRMATION 

Free State SAPS spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng confirmed the incident. "We can confirm that on the 20 January 2024 at about 19:30, a well-known politician and his entourage were distributing t-shirts of their organisation in Thabiso Makoko Street next to a well-known shisanyama business premises when they threw a t-shirt at a 44-year-old Meloding man. The man threw it back at them inside the car, then it covered the face of this well-known politician. Then he alighted the vehicle accompanied by his bodyguards to allegedly assault the complainant. He sustained injuries on his face. He registered a case today, Monday on the 21 January 2024, at Meloding Police Station and a case of common assault was registered for further investigation," he said.
