New direction for Nedbank Cup after Royal AM's departure

Sekhulhune United will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup quaterfinals

The National Soccer League has successfully restored order to the smooth running of the Nedbank Cup. Recently, the NSL executive committee disqualified the troubled Royal AM from the tournament due to their ongoing legal battle with the South African Revenue Service.

NEW DIRECTION FOR NEDBANK CUP

Royal AM's failure to participate in their scheduled match against fellow KwaZulu-Natal first division team, Milford FC, caused delays in the competition. Sekhukhune United secured a 2-1 victory over Milford FC in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 match held at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon. In a statement released last week, the NSL said: "Having reviewed representations, the Executive Committee, in concurrence with Royal AM and the Curator, resolved that Royal AM Football Club will take no further part in the Nedbank Cup competition this season, in the interest of time."

NEW WINNER WILL FACE SUNDOWNS

This victory allowed Sekhukhune United, also known as Babina Noko, to advance to the quarterfinals, where they will compete against Mamelodi Sundowns on March 8 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, with a kick-off time of 8 pm. The Premier Soccer League confirmed dates, venues, and kick-off times for the 2025 Nedbank Cup quarterfinal fixtures. SuperSport United will host defending champions, the Orlando Pirates, at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, March 8. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 pm. Later on Saturday evening, Stellenbosch FC will face the Kaizer Chiefs at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. The kick-off is set for 6 pm. The last match of the competition will see Durban City, the only remaining first division team, host Marumo Gallants at Chatworth Stadium, with kick-off at 3 pm. The Gallants are on a high after beating the Orlando Pirates 2-0 at the Free State stadium on Saturday.
