In a late-night drama, Sekhukhune United fired their head coach, Lehlohonolo Seema, just hours after he participated in the Nedbank Cup pre-match press conference on behalf of the club. This marks the second time in less than two years that the Lesotho-born Seema has been let go, having rejoined the club in August of the previous year.
HE HAS BEEN REPLACED ALREADY
Although Babina Noko did not state the reasons why he was fired this time around, he was shown the door after his team lost an away match to Richards Bay on Wednesday. Sekhukhune is in position 4 in the Betway Premiership log. The club confirmed that Kaitano Tembo and Paulus Masehe would take charge of Sekhukhune following Seema's immediate dismissal. Addressing the media earlier in the day, Seema expressed confidence in his role, stating: "The coach of Sekhukhune United is me, the coach that is going to play Mamelodi Sundowns is me, and the coach that lost yesterday is me.' But a few hours later, the club announced his departure.
TINKLER ANTICIPATED TO JOIN THE CLUB
In a brief statement about the sacking of Seema, Sekhukhune said: "The club thanks coach Seema for his dedication and contribution during his time with us." There is already speculation that the team may consider hiring former Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler, who was released from his position on December 31. The former Bafana Bafana midfielder was fired after the team lost three of their last four matches, leaving them in 12th place in the league standings, just three points above the relegation zone. Sekhukhune will play log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank quarter-finals at the Lucas Moripe Stadium tomorrow.
