Twelve people tragically lost their lives in a bus accident on the R21 northbound before the OR Tambo International Airport off-ramp in Gauteng this morning. The bus was carrying workers from Katlehong to Kempton Park when the accident happened.

HORROR CRASH

Spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services, William Ntladi, explained that the bus jackknifed and rolled several times. He said nine of the victims were males and three were females. "We have accounted for twelve fatalities so far. All of them are adults. A total of nine men and three women were killed; other injured patients have been taken to the hospital," said Ntladi adding that emergency officials were at the scene, and the freeway was still closed by midday.

LOSS OF LIVES ON THE ROAD

On Sunday afternoon, nine churchgoers lost their lives in a bus accident on the N2 between Richards Bay and Shaka's Kraal in KwaZulu-Natal. The accident claimed nine lives, including a four-year-old child. According to the Road Traffic Management, the crash happened due to a tyre failure, causing the driver to lose control. The bus subsequently went through a crash barrier, plunged down an embankment and overturned. In another horrific crash last week, ten people were killed in a collision between a bus and a truck. It's reported that the bus was travelling from the direction of Reddersburg towards Smithfield in the Free State while the truck was heading in the opposite direction, and the accident was a side-swipe head-on impact. The drivers of both the truck and the bus survived the crash. Free State police said they are investigating culpable homicide.
