The matter against MK Party MP and former President Jacob Zuma, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla has been postponed to August for pre-trial. Sambudla-Zuma appeared at the Durban High Court on Thursday.
JULY UNREST
She has been charged with incitement of terrorism and violence with the state saying that Zuma-Sambudla used her social media account on X to put pressure on authorities to release her father and incite violence in July 2021. During court proceedings, the state revealed that Zuma-Sambudla filed representations with KZN Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Elaine Zungu, seeking to have the charges dropped. However, her request was denied.
WAITING ON REQUEST
Speaking after court proceedings the NPA spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga said Zuma-Sambudla's defence had not yet formally submitted their request to appeal to the DPP's office. Zuma-Sambudla's defence Advocate Dali Mpofu, told the court that they intend to escalate the matter to NDPP, Shamila Batohi, in a renewed attempt to have the charges withdrawn. "Once they do so, it will then be a matter that the NDPP will have to consider, depending on what they present before her. "She will also have to get a report from the Director of Public Prosecutions, because in terms of the NPA Act, an NDPP may only review a decision to prosecute or not to prosecute after consulting the relevant DPP,' Mhaga said.
