Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla has issued a second apology over her social media rant about MK Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu. Earlier this week, Zuma-Sambudla, who is also an MP and Jacob Zuma's daughter, went on a rant insulting Shivambu, referring to him as the worst thing that has happened to the party. She also said he must go to hell and that she was not afraid of him.
THE FIRST APOLOGY DID NOT MENTION SHIVAMBU
In the latest apology she shared on X this morning, Zuma-Sambudla directed the apology to Shivambu, unlike the first one, where she apologised to the party leadership, her father and party leader Jacob Zuma and party supporters. "To the secretary-general of uMkhonto weSizwe Party, my comrade, Floyd Shivambu, president Jacob Zuma, party members, supporters and the people of South Africa, I sincerely apologise for my recent public posts on X [formerly Twitter], which have caused offence, division and disruption within the uMkhonto weSizwe Party and beyond," she said. She said it was never her intention to undermine the principles of unity, respect and discipline that are the foundation of the party. "I acknowledge that my words and actions have violated the party's disciplinary code of conduct and I deeply regret any harm they may have caused," Zuma-Sambudla added.
TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR HER STATEMENT
In the apology, she said she was taking full responsibility for her statements. "I acknowledge that my words and actions have violated the party's disciplinary code of conduct and I deeply regret any harm they may have caused. I take full responsibility for my statements and commit to upholding the values and integrity of uMkhonto weSizwe moving forward."
She added, "I humbly ask for the understanding and forgiveness of my comrades and the South African public. I assure you all that I will reflect on this moment and use it as an opportunity for growth, discipline and renewed commitment to the party's mission," she said, as she signed off her apology with "humility and respect." Zuma-Sambudla was ordered to apologise earlier this week by her father or face expulsion from the party. She apologised in what was called a half-baked apology. She also did not delete the posts where she was insulting Shivambu. She has since deleted the posts.
