ActionSA wants their councillor and Tshwane deputy mayor, Dr. Nasiphi Moya, as the next mayor of the capital city. Party leader Herman Mashaba revealed this to journalists yesterday after former mayor Cilliers Brink was ousted in a motion of no confidence filed by the ANC and supported by ActionSA and the EFF in Tshwane.
SHE KNOWS THE CITY BETTER
Mashaba said that the party will put forward Moya's name as the candidate for mayor of Tshwane going into negotiations with the ANC. He also said that one of the conditions the party agreed on is to support the ANC's motion was for Moya to take over as mayor. "We now have an assignment within the next few days to get together with the ANC and put together a government that will serve the residents of Tshwane. But one thing I can tell you is that, in principle, when I discussed it with the ANC, I said I would do it on condition that Dr. Moya takes over the position of executive because there's no better person who knows the city more than her," Mashaba said. He added that without ActionSA support, the ANC will not be able to form government on their own.
DA WANTS BRINK BACK AS MAYOR
The Democratic Alliance in Gauteng said this morning that they will field ousted mayor Cilliers Brink as the candidate for mayor of the capital city. In a statement, Gauteng party leader Solly Msimango said they will not abandon the residents to the chaos caused by the ANC, enabled by ActionSA, and which is set to benefit the EFF. "We will field Cilliers Brink as mayoral candidate to continue making progress in Tshwane. Yesterday, during media interviews, Herman Mashaba told journalists they had a deal with the ANC to make Nasiphi Moya the mayor. This was immediately contradicted by the ANC in their own public statements. Proving the point, we made that he was a useful idiot and has been duped to collapse a working government that included his own party. As for the ANC, DA leaders made every attempt to persuade the national leadership of the ANC, whom we were informed has the authority to do so, to withdraw the motion of no confidence in Mayor Cilliers Brink," Msimango said.
