Wydad Athletic Club's coach, Rhulani Mokwena, was attacked by soccer fans during a match against their rivals and current league leaders, RS Berkane, on Friday night. Reports indicate that supporters from the opposition team aimed to intimidate Mokwena, potentially to disrupt his team's performance and maintain their position at the top of the Moroccan league standings.

ASSAULTED BY FANS

An irritated Mokwena was seen gesturing angrily against the Berkane fans who threw bottles at him at a match played at Stade Municipal de Berkane. One of the top journalists covering African football extensively, who calls himself Micky Jnr African Football Journalist, posted the video of the attack on his Facebook page."I'm so heartbroken to see this video. Rhulani Mokwena was targeted by the home fans during their game last night. Swears at him. Throwing bottles to hit him." Since Mokwena arrived at the Moroccan club, he has encountered numerous challenges, including suggestions from management for him to collaborate with local assistant coaches to enhance his strategies.

ATTACKED IN THE PAST

In the match on Friday, Wydad managed to secure a 0-0 draw against Berkane. Since taking the helm at Wydad last year, Mokwena has brought in former Sundowns players Thembinkosi Lorch and Cassius Mailula. His own Wydad fans threw bricks at him in October last year when the team did not do well in the Moroccan Botola Pro League. In his response after the attack, Mokwena told the Moroccan media: "At big clubs, you have to win games. My philosophy and beliefs are mine, and I'll die by them."
