In another tragic incident that happened last night, five people were gunned down in Bityi, outside Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape.
A BIG PROBLEM
Eastern Cape premier, Oscar Mabuyane was this morning attending the funeral of four of the six Qumbu shooting victims when he was informed of the latest killing.Mabuyane said the latest mass murder in the province leaves everybody saddened and worried again.
"As the government we seem to underestimate the problem we are dealing with. Criminals are brazen, they really go all out to show their ugly head and they don't care. You can't have this continuous senseless killing," he said.
SENSELESS KILLINGS
Mabuyane said they see the efforts of law enforcement but there seems to be a bigger problem.
"Police are trying, they are working very hard. We have seen progress in Lusikisiki and even here there is an arrest. Arresting the criminals is not helping us, even if they go to jail they come back after 20 years and continue," he said.
Meanwhile the families of the Lusikisiki massacre victims has urged the government to swiftly deal with criminals in their communities.
Three men made their first court appearance in the Lusikisiki Magistrate?s Court on Friday, and they have been charged with the mass shooting of the 18 relatives killed at Ngobozana Village in September.
