Former RHOJ stars take legal route after their fight is flighted

Brinette Seopela and Gugu Khathi will take legal action after their fight was aired without their permission

Former Real Housewives of Johannesburg stars Brinnette Seopela and Gugu Khathi are livid after Multichoice aired their clip fighting with fellow housewife Christall Kay. The footage of the three ladies emerged during The Real Housewives: The Ultimate Girls' Trip South Africa, where the housewives travelled to Jamaica.

THE CATFIGHT

In April, the video was released to ZiMoja by a former employee at Ayepyep Lifestyle Club, where the franchise shot the scene. In one video, Kay is seen having a screaming match with Khathi, who uses the F-word. Then Kay pushes Khathi on to the couch before two females who were in the ladies' company are seen coming between them, so they don't fight.

In another clip, Kay is restrained by two bouncers when one woman was seen kicking her while sitting on the couch. The fighting and screaming happened for several minutes and Kay is seen crying while sitting on the floor after her screaming match.

THEY DID NOT SEE IT COMING

Sources close to the situation say the two, Khathi and Seopela, have lodged a formal complaint with the pay channel because they were portrayed as hooligans. According to sources, the two ladies were shocked when they saw the fight on TV after they were allegedly assured that it was never going to see the light of day. "Imagine getting calls from business associates asking you about your behaviour on TV. You would also be disappointed," said a source. Another source said that the two contestants did not appreciate the fact that they were not asked for their consent before the footage aired. The source said: "They were all taken by surprise. None of them saw it coming."

According to the source, the clip nearly destroyed their plans as Seopela lost a gig after the episode appeared because her aggressive behaviour was not affiliated with her client's brand. "Reputation is everything in this industry," the insider added.

NO ACCOUNTABILITY

ZiMoja has also reliably learned that when the ladies inquired about the airing of the clips, they were told that it was leaked by a former producer. "It seems like no one wants to take responsibility. They are now blaming it on the former producer of the show as if she was working on this leg of the show," added another source. The insider added that Khathi and Seopela have already involved their legal teams into possibly taking legal action over the "leaked footage." "They will do anything to protect their reputation," the source said. Called for comment, both ladies declined to say anything, citing that it is a legal matter. "We will comment in due time about this matter. The timing is not right at the moment," they said. Called for comment on Monday, CEO for General Entertainment at Multichoice, Nomsa Philiso, said she had been away on leave and that she would look into the matter. She had not given us a formal comment at the time of publication.
