Radio personality and actor Skhumbuzo Mbatha was arrested for drunken driving on Saturday night. Mbatha was nabbed at a roadblock between Barry Hertzog Avenue and Napier Road in Parktown, Joburg.
ARRESTED AT A ROADBLOCK
According to a source, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) stopped him driving a white Nissan Navara around 8:30 pm and found that he was smelling of alcohol. The arresting officer requested that he undergo a breathalyser test, which indicated a reading exceeding the legal limit at 0.51 mg/l. Mbatha had his blood sample drawn after the breathalyser test. The JMPD team then handed him over to the South African Police Service at Parkwood police station, where he was booked and charged with drunken driving.
RELEASED ON BAIL
Mbatha was later released on R1,500 bail. He is set to appear in court this week. Mbatha could not be reached for comment as his phone rang unanswered, and he ignored our WhatsApp messages. Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said she didn't have access to the system and could only confirm the case tomorrow. Mbatha is known for his role as Meneer Manaka on SABC 1's Skeem Saam. He also co-presents Ntshirogele with Lethabo 'Lejoy' Mathatho on SABC radio station Thobela FM.
