The ANC National Working Committee has roped in veterans in an attempt to revive their provincial structures in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. Former provincial secretaries Bheki Mtolo and TK Nciza have been removed from the newly reconfigured provincial structures.
RE-BUILDING
The ANC's National Working Committee (NWC) met in Cape Town yesterday to discuss the future of its leadership structures in Gauteng and KZN. The ANC has brought back their veterans to restore order following their failure to secure a national majority in the 2024 May elections, falling below the 50% mark for the first time. Mike Mabuyakhulu, Jeff Radebe, Amos Masondo, and Hope Papo have been brought back in a bid to rescue its provincial structures in both KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Gauteng. In February, ANC Gauteng chairperson Panyaza Lesufi expressed his support for the national leadership's plan to restructure the provincial leadership. "We want to thank our national leadership for supporting us to be where we are until this rally… But most importantly, comrades, we want to thank each one of you. When others wrote the death certificate of the ANC in Gauteng, you stood firm. You defended us and declared that the ANC still exists in this province. In this heat, you are not here for yourselves, not just for your children, but to send a strong message that the ANC lives, the ANC leads," said Lesufi.
OUT WITH THE NEW, IN WITH THE OLD
Papo, who previously served as deputy ANC president Paul Mashatile's secretary, back when Mashatile was Gauteng's chairperson, is set to take over from TK Nciza in Gauteng. Masondo will lead Gauteng, alongside Panyaza Lesufi; meanwhile, Radebe has been elected as convener in KZN.
