A man was arrested after he confessed to hiring Inkabi to kill his best friend, who was a pastor. Pastor Peter Diya from St. John Apostolic Church in Mfuleni township, Cape Town, in the Western Cape, was shot and killed on Friday evening by men who asked him to pray for them.

CONFESSION

It is alleged that his friend later confessed to the pastor's murder after the police discovered threatening text messages from him to Diya. According to a church member who did not want to be named, the friend claimed that he heard a rumour that Diya was planning to have him killed, so he decided to get hitmen to kill the pastor before he got to him.

SHOT AT CHURCH

Church members who spoke to ZiMoja said that they were shocked to learn that Diya's close friend confessed to his murder. "The hitmen who were allegedly hired by the pastor's friend approached the pastor for prayers,and he obliged, as strangers would come to the church for prayers all the time. We were waiting at the gate when, all of a sudden, we heard gunshot sounds from the church and ran away after shooting. The two men came out of the church and walked away after shooting. They didn't even run," a church member said. "They made sure that he did not survive the shooting. One bullet hit him in the forehead," said the members who asked to remain anonymous. Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said a murder case was being investigated by the cops. " A 38-year-old pastor was shot and killed at a premises in S19, Covid Informal Settlement. Provincial detectives are currently investigating the case. A 40-year-old suspect was arrested and appeared in court on Monday," Van Wyk said.
