Former Joyous Celebration member and gospel sensation, Xolile 'Xolly' Mncwango recently launched her sophomore albums Unusual and Jesus is Enough. After making the bold decision to pursue a solo career, Xolly is now preparing to host her inaugural live concert at the Carnival City Big Top Arena on 7 September 2024.

GOING SOLO

She studied music theory at Varsity College to further her understanding of the craft and performed regularly at the iconic BAT Centre which was the breeding ground for Jazz in Durban. She was part of Joyous Celebration, Vol. 17 (Grateful), live which was released in 2013 and the project gave her the kickstart her career needed. "Joyous 23 was my last experience with the group. I wanted to explore myself and also with other brands,' she says. "I felt it was just the right time to branch out and I was content with what I had achieved while there.'

BUILDING HER OWN

She has since established herself as a solo force in the gospel industry. "I am now working on impacting people's lives. I want to tell my story and give them a God experience. Beautiful music and a tangible experience of a Godly atmosphere.' Being a solo artist is not easy and she no longer has to backpack on the group. "I had to build my own team, get my crowd and audience, and that has not been easy. But it has taught me to trust in God at all times and not lean on your own understanding, not lean on being self-aware, and be open to always learning and growing your craft.'

NO TURNING BACK

Born to a church-going family in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, Xolly has been singing for most of her life. She was part of the worship team in her church when she was spotted by music titan, Lindelani Mkhize who recruited her to the South African Gospel Music institution that is Joyous Celebration. "From then on, there was no turning back because the spotlight remained on me.'
