Popular deejay Tbo Touch, real name Thabo Molefe, has come out guns blazing after he was criticised for a no-show at the glamorous Royalty Soapie Awards. The 6th edition of the awards was held on Saturday night at The Galleria in Kramerville, Sandton.  Tbo Touch was billed to present the Lifetime Achievement Award at at the event, that attracts the crème de la crème in the celebrity circles.

NO CLUE THAT HE WAS HOSTING

Tbo Touch went on a tirade on his Metro FM Touch Down show to explain his decision for not coming to the awards. A source close to the situation says organisers were busy calling Touch on the day of the event, asking about his whereabouts. The source says Tbo Touch was running his many other businesses because he had no clue about presenting an award. "Touch is a busy man. You can't just call him on the day of the event, or even a day before the event. It's time organisers respect our artists,' says the source. Another source says there must have been a mixed up because Tbo Touch was approached weeks prior the event and told them he was not available. Nonetheless, comedian and actor Mpho Pops ended up presenting the award. A source close to the situation said Tbo Touch was not going to address the issue but he felt obligated simply because he adores and respects Mam Connie Chiume.

PROPER PROCEDURE

Tbo Touch said proper channels were not followed when the show organisers approached him. He said he was shocked to receive a call from the organisers asking him about his whereabouts."There are proper channels that need to be followed. For example, you won't just inbox Back Coffee and expect him to accept an invite to host some awards. I was shocked when I was called and asked about my whereabouts a few minutes before the awards started. Please respect me. In that institution, there are people who are on the payroll to make sure that you get to me and make sure your message is reciprocated and you get what you want. Reset the levels. With that said, I would like to apologise to Mama Chiume but next year I will make sure that I am there on time, with the proper invite sent to me,' he said. When called for comment the show's organiser, SImphiwe Majola said there must have a confusion because the office knew that Tbo Touch was not available. "Someone must have made a mistake," he said.
