It used to be taboo to get plastic surgery. It was often shunned as something that only Americans and Europeans did. Until the likes of Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Williams, Dolly Parton, and Pamela Anderson shared their surgery experiences. It has spread the world over and is even the most popular in Africa.While some celebrities still deny getting some help, many are not afraid to speak up about the work they have done for their bodies. In Africa, the likes of Nigerian transgender woman Bobrisky made it popular and in South Africa, Khanyi Mbau and the late Mshoza opened the door for many women to be comfortable to talk about getting plastic surgery. According to research by The Global Aesthetic Survey by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery(ISAPS) ?" there has been an overall increase of 9% in surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures across the world and including South Africa. Some of the most popular surgeries are liposuction, Brazilian Butt Lifts, boob jobs, mummy makeovers, face lifts, tummy tucks, and eyelid lifts, in particular, which are among the more popular choices for cosmetic surgery for South Africans. The top five countries include the US, Brazil, Japan, Italy, and Mexico and SouthAfrica ranked at number 24.

Jojo Robinson: Real Housewives of Durban star Jojo Robinson recently opened up about getting an abdominoplasty and liposuction procedure.She documented her experience and the pain during the healing process. and admitted that it was painful. "The pain is quite bad; I'm not going to lie. But you manage it as long as you take your painkillers. Getting up and down is very difficult.'
Sithelo Shozi: DJ and mom Sithelo Shozi recently came clean about fixing her teeth, getting liposuction ad a Brazilian butt lift at a Turkey clinic. The mom of three recently came out of a relationship with Royal AM chairman Andile Mpisane and got some help with a nip and a tuck. "I wish we'd retract the surgery stigma we seem to pass on. There's absolutely nothing wrong with giving yourself a makeover, it's each to their own when it comes to such after three children. This was the best decision and best reward I could've given myself,' Sithelo shared with her fans. "After spending the past two months doing some diet planning and endless takeouts. I was finally able to gain enough weight and fat for the procedure I wanted. My hip dips must've been my biggest worry and also achieving my desired shape.'
Tebogo Thobejane: Muvhango actress and podcast host Tebogo Thobejane gifted herself with liposuction at 31 years old after giving birth to her son. On numerous occasions, she has shared the details of not feeling sexy and confident about her body after becoming a mother.
Cyan Boujee: Influencer and DJ Cyan Bounjee is recovering from her second liposuction and a new Brazilian butt lift which she recently documented on her YouTube channel. The controversial DJ takes fans through preparing for the procedure prior, and her healing journey. "It is painful, but the results are worth it.'
Khanyi Mbau: She has never been one to shy away from addressing issues about image, and what she has done. Khanyi has spoken candidly about lightening her skin and breast implants and tummy tuck. "I want to look like a doll,' she says. In 2017, she spent R95,000 on a cosmetic surgery procedure. She revealed that she initially wanted to have some of the fat from her liposuction implanted into her buttocks, but doctors said it was unrealistic.
Eva Modika: Reality show star Eva Modika once tried liposuction and a BBL which ended up botched. She recently opened up about going to Turkey to try to get the 360-liposuction procedure on her stomach worth R65 000 at The Clinique Istanbul.
"I would do it again,' she says. "The surgery took eight hours and it was very difficult because the surgeon had to fix mistakes made by my first doctor in South Africa which gave me a lump next to my umbilical cord and was the cause of me getting fibrosis. But I am all good now and looking like the perfect doll,' she says.
