ANC National Executive Committee member Tony Yengeni attends the ANC 55th National Conference this year and has been cleared to stand for the NEC position. This comes from the ANC Electoral Committee chaired by former President Kgalema Motlanthe reversed a decision to disqualify him to take part and contesting for the position of being a member of the NEC which is the highest decision body of the organisation.

CLEARED TO STAND AS NEC

Yengeni was disqualified with the former ANCWL president Bathabile Dlamini on the basis that they had spent 6 months and over in prison. In an interview with SABCNews, Yengeni states that he is glad to be cleared to stand for the NEC position at ANC. "I feel good about it. I felt initially that this was unjust and unwarranted and was done in haste.' In a letter directed to Tony, seen by ZiMoja, the ANC Electoral commission says that they were satisfied with his explanation, and he has been cleared. "Your letter of appeal to the EC in respect of this matter dated 12 December 2022 refers. The EC has duly decided to uphold your appeal based on the substitutive reasons and proof of the expungement of your criminal records as furnished by yourselves. We, therefore, wish to confirm that you are not disqualified from being a candidate for being a candidate of the NEC positions at the 55th National Conference of the ANC due to take place on 16 December 22 at Nasrec. We thank you for your cooperation and trust that this matter is amicably resolved and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours," the letter reads from Motlanthe. Awaiting her fate are her comrades Dlamini, Supra Mahumalo, and Dr. Nkosana Dlamini Zuma.
