"This is intimidation, thuggery and criminality" Bheki Cele on Nhlanhla Lux's house bombing

Nhlanhla Lux has blamed the EFF for the bombing at his family home in Soweto

Police minister Bheki Cele says the attack on Soweto activist Nhlanhla 'Lux' Mohlauli's house in Pimville, Soweto was intimidation and thuggery.  Lux's house was allegedly bombed in the early hours of Monday morning, but no one was injured. His neighbour's houses also suffered damages when the bomb went off.

THE BOMBING

Mohlauli who is the leader of the Soweto Parliament took to social media and wrote: "My house just got hit with two bombs, all my neighbour's windows are shattered, imagine my house. We beat the EFF at their own game on the streets by defending Soweto brilliantly with all the law enforcement on our side. So, they bomb & kill my entire family because they lost house just got hit with two bombs, all my neighbour's windows are shattered imagine my house. We beat the EFF at their own game on the streets by defending Soweto brilliantly with all law enforcement on our side" he said in his earlier twee. Nhlanhla later retracted his statement and said there were no casualties. Lux blamed the bombing on the EFF.

NEIGHBOURS SHAKEN

A neighbour who spoke to the media said that they heard a loud explosion and thought their houses were collapsing. "We heard an explosion and then the windows shattering. Thank God everyone is okay, but the kids are traumatised,' a neighbour Julia Mothlamme told the media outside her house in Pimville. She added that there were gun shots soon after the explosion. Another neighbour added that they were scared and confused at first and realised that they were attacked. "We thank the police for their prompt response when they were called regarding the incident, this shows we are not safe in this country,' the neighbour added.

THE HAWKS INVESTIGATING

Police minister Bheki Cele who visited Lux's house soon after the bombing said that the matter was referred to the Hawks for further investigations. "This is thuggery and criminality, the damage seems to be significant, the gunshots proofs that this was intimidation,' Cele said. He added that the police will do everything in their power to make sure whoever is behind the bombing is arrested. "Our forensic people are here and its being investigated by the Hawks to find out the real reasons behind this attack. The investigation will tell us what the story behind this is,' Cele added. National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed the incident. "Police are investigating a case of public violence and malicious damage to property after an explosion caused damage to 3 houses in Pimville,' Mathe said.
