After spending six years on the run, the police have finally arrested an alleged serial rapist who has been terrorising women in the Tzaneen and Bolobedu areas in Limpopo.The 33-year-old man was arrested on 28 December and is due to apply for bail at the Tzaneen Magistrate court on Friday. The suspect was arrested at the Tzaneen CBD following a tip off after he was spotted in the area. 

 MODUS OPERANDI

It's alleged that the man targeted unsuspecting women in Tzaneen and Bolobedu communities between 2015 and 2016. Limpopo SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba also said that the suspect also targeted women hitchhiking on the R71 road near Tzaneen Spur restaurant on the way to Phalaborwa and Giyani and was linked to the crimes through forensic evidence.  "Further investigation revealed that the perpetrator targeted unsuspecting women on their way to Tzaneen town who either did not know the area very well or he just offered some assistance, lure them to a secluded area and rob the of their belongings. One of the victims was hacked with a panga during the incident," said Ledwaba.

Ledwaba said the suspect may be linked to more cases as police investigations are still unfolding. He  appealed to victims who may have fallen prey to this suspect to come forward and report the matter at the nearest police station or call the crime stop number 0860010111or report viaMySAPSApp.
