Speedy says he is the glue that keeps Bongo Maffin together

Bongo Maffin has last released an album in 2019

Bongo Maffin has been around for more than 25 years when they got onto the music scene in 1998 with their first project The Concerto. The group members Thandiswa Mazwai, Anesu "Jah Seed' Mupemi, Stoan Seate, and Speedy made a comeback in 2019 and dropped their last project From Bongo with Love. But they soon went on to pursue their solo careers. Before that, their last project was New Construction in 2005, which did not include member, Harold "Speedy' Matlhaku.  "It's something we want to give the fans. As we got into making the album, we realised that this is actually the gift we can give our fans," Thandiswa announced to fans then. "We've let the ground get fertile and recover again. If we hadn't gone through those 14 years, I don't know if we'd be sitting here talking about another album. A lot of energy has been re-gathered, that ground has had time to recover, and I think it's fertile again to start hammering it," Stoan reiterated.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Taking to social media, Speedy says he has been his work behind the scenes that kept the group functioning. "It's so much silent hard work that I have to keep putting in behind the scenes in order for this group to keep functioning,' he says. "And nobody will ever know about it. But, I just have to keep doing it without any applause or recognition, and keep going #Bongomaffin #Keepitmoving …exit Egos enter humbleness.'

GROUP DYNAMICS

A few years ago, Speedy left the group but came back after learning a few lessons while pursuing his solo career. People assumed that Speedy and his bandmate Stoan had been beefing, but that was far from the truth. "Speedy made the decision to leave Bongo Maffin but he has learned his lesson. He has been working hard because he doesn't want to be in the same situation again, but we are cool.' Stoan said.
